Saaf Mohalla Saaf Pakistan organized three day summer camp for the students of Safa Mera Primary School! On Day 1, our main focus was to educate the young minds about the pressing issue of climate change and how they can contribute to its mitigation. Here’s a brief overview of what we covered during the camp:
1️⃣ Understanding Weather and Climate: We started by explaining the concepts of weather and climate, helping the students differentiate between the two.
2️⃣ Climate Change Awareness: We delved deeper into the topic of climate change, discussing its causes, effects, and the importance of taking action.
3️⃣ Waste Management and Recycling: We highlighted the crucial role waste management and recycling play in mitigating climate change.
4️⃣ Greenhouse Gases and Their Impact: We explained what greenhouse gases are, how they are created, and their impact on the climate.
To make the learning experience interactive and enjoyable, we organized a fun worksheet and a Climate Change activity/game. One exciting activity involved the construction of edible greenhouse gas molecules using toothpicks and gum, which the children later consumed. This hands-on approach allowed them to visualize the concept in a creative and memorable way.
To promote sustainable practices, we served the children unpackaged snacks in steel plates and glasses, promoting the reduction of single-use plastic.
We are grateful to Dollar Industries for their generous contribution of stationary pouches for all the participants, encouraging them to adopt eco-friendly habits in their daily lives.
The summer camp was a fantastic opportunity for the students of Safa Mera Primary School to learn about climate change and its implications. We hope that they will carry this knowledge forward and become ambassadors for a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Pakistan.
Let’s work together for a Saaf Mohalla and a Saaf #pakistan ! 🌱🇵🇰
🌞 Summer Camp Day 2 Update! 🌳
Today at our summer camp, we had an incredible turnout with 24 enthusiastic and engaged kids, surpassing our initial expectations of 20. It was a day filled with learning, exploration, and fun!
One of the main topics we focused on today was the important link between #greenhouse gases (GHGs) and #climatechange. Our students showed remarkable interest and understanding as they explored this crucial connection. Our team prepared captivating visuals that helped them grasp the concept easily.
The kids quickly grasped the concept of wet and dry waste and aced the #composting worksheet activity.
It was heartening to witness most of the kids comprehending the measures required to mitigate climate change. We emphasized the significance of their contributions by showcasing the impact of their recycling efforts. By collecting recyclables, they have actively participated in climate change mitigation, preventing open burning and littering. Together, we’ve made a significant difference!
To reinforce their understanding, we concluded the day with a stimulating activity called the “Greenhouse Gases/Earth Game.” The kids not only had a blast playing the game but also learned about the consequences of excessive GHGs in trapping the sun’s rays and causing the Earth to become hotter.
As always, we ensured that our commitment to sustainability extended to the snacks and drinks we provided. Towards the end of the day, we served delicious, unpackaged snacks and refreshing drinks in stainless steel crockery specially purchased for the school. This small step goes a long way in reducing waste and promoting eco-friendly practices.
We are grateful for an incredible response from the kids.
🌿🌍 Exciting Update from Summer Camp! 🌞🏕️
As we wrap up our amazing three-day summer camp at Safa Mera Primary School, we are thrilled to share the highlights of our final day with you! Today, we dived deep into the fascinating world of ecosystems and the critical role they play in our environment. 🌱🌿
Our enthusiastic students eagerly absorbed knowledge about ecosystems through engaging and vibrant charts. They learned how different organisms, including plants, animals, and microorganisms, interact with each other and their environment to form a delicate balance. 🐾🌺
The highlight of the day was the captivating terrarium activity, where our students worked collaboratively in groups of five. They got hands-on experience in creating their own mini-ecosystems enclosed in glass containers. This activity provided a unique opportunity to witness firsthand how ecosystems function and adapt to changes.
With the help of charts and diagrams, we illustrated the powerful connection between terrariums and climate change. Students learned how changes in temperature, humidity, and other factors impact the delicate balance of an ecosystem, just like how climate change affects our planet’s diverse ecosystems. 🌡️🌍
In our concluding session, we took a moment to summarize and revise the key topics covered in the previous two days. Climate change, greenhouse gases, and the vital role of waste management in mitigating climate change were all revisited. It was inspiring to see how much our students had grasped and internalized this important information!
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the exceptional students and dedicated faculty of Safa Mera Primary School. Mostly importantly our volunteers Amina Rehman ,Ali Malik, Mehtab Khalid, Aftab Khalid, Raania Ausim, Fajr Atif and Haaniya Rehman. Their tireless efforts in content creation played a crucial role in making the Saaf Mohalla Saaf Pakistan Summer Camp 2023 a resounding success! 🎉🙌
